manifesto

new ideas - collective enquiry - every last friday

Conversation is creation.
Art is philosophy in material form.
Imagination is a political force.

We gather artists, activists, organisers, and thinkers to:

Discuss
Disagree
Collaborate
Share resources
Launch projects
Refine campaigns
Test language
Imagine futures

We reject isolation.
We reject hierarchy.
We reject shallow networking.

We build networks that:

Sustain each other
Challenge each other
Protect depth
Encourage risk
Value rigour

The Commons is:

An informal university.
A social laboratory.
A site of collective imagination.

Art is not separate from justice.
Creative thought is not separate from responsibility.
Life itself is the experiment.

about

the commons is a London-based salon and collective platform founded by LaToyah Gill and Edwin Mingard.

It brings together artists, activists, and organisers to build shared intellectual and creative infrastructure.

Unlike traditional networking spaces, the commons prioritises:
  • Depth over performance
  • Dialogue over debate
  • Collaboration over competition
  • Sustained relationships over one-off events

Through talks, workshops, reading groups, and project incubation, Tte commons supports:
  • Social justice-driven art
  • Cross-disciplinary experimentation
  • Campaign development
  • Philosophical inquiry grounded in lived experience

We see art as a tool for social transformation and creativity as a force capable of reshaping material conditions.

the commons is not a club.
It is an ecosystem.
